TY student James Wellwood wins Texaco Children’s Art Award!

Congratulations to Transition Year student James Wellwood on winning his category in the recent Texaco Children’s Art Awards.  James attended a reception at the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin yesterday (Tuesday, 19th April 2016) where the seven category winners were awarded.  An overall winner was selected from these magnificent seven entries with Marta Turalska from Co Limerick receiving the honour.

This is the latest in a long line of Art awards that James has won during his time in Coláiste Mhuire.  Others include Credit Union and Doodle 4 Google awards for the gifted artist.  We wish James and his Art teacher, Ms Anne-Marie Ryan, continued success in the months and years ahead.

The Deadline to drop off to the school is Thursday, 25th February 2016.

 Only suitable items, such as Clothes, Sheets, Towels etc and a small number of Electrical Items such as Mobile Phones & Laptops are acceptable.

All proceeds will go towards the upgrading of facilities and equipment in our Physical Education & Sports Department.  All Support Would Be Greatly Appreciated!

Open Day for Incoming 1st Years & Open Night for Parents/Guardians

Monday, October 5th, 2015

Coláiste Mhuire Johnstown will host their annual Open Day for Incoming 1st Years next Friday, 16th October 2015.  This event is run in conjunction with the local primary schools with bus transport provided.  A timetable of events is arranged for prospective students to sample secondary school life over a range of subject areas between approximately 10.00am & 1.00pm.

Please note that the Open Day involves a School Closure on Friday, 16th October for the majority of students.  Some Transition Year students will be requested to attend as guides in conjunction with their roles on our Buddying system.  Supervised Study is available for Exam Classes Only i.e. 3rd & 6th years.  Please contact your Year Heads or Study Co-ordinator regarding same.

The subsequent Open Night for Parents or Guardians will take place the following Thursday, 22nd October 2015 between 7.30-9.00pm.

Additional Welding Night Classes for April 2015

Due to popular demand, Coláiste Mhuire Johnstown are running extra Night Classes in Welding.

A new ARC Welding night class (for beginners) will commence in April (after Easter holidays) for a 9 week period.  The cost of this course is €120 (Concessions may be available for Social Welfare recipients).

All courses are Certified by the Tutor (Mr Bart Cash).  Anyone interested in attending these classes should contact the Night Class Co-ordinator on 087-9057118 or the School Office on 056-8831135.

New Night Class in MINDFULNESS Added to Spring Courses

Coláiste Mhuire, Johnstown, Co. Kilkenny are running a Four Week course in Mindfulness after the Easter Holidays (the week starting Monday, 13th April).  Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment and non–judgementally.  The cost of the course is €50 per person.  The appointed Night & Start Date is To Be Confirmed, subject to a minimum number of participants.    Anyone interested can contact the School Office on 056-8831135 or our Night Class Co-ordinator (outside school times) on 087-9057118.

Information on FETAC Courses at Coláiste Mhuire Johnstown

The management and staff at Coláiste Mhuire Johnstown would like to invite enquiries and enrollments to their extensive range of FETAC Courses for Adult Learners which commence in September 2010.

Coláiste Mhuire Johnstown has a long tradition of teaching Post-Leaving Certificate courses, particularly in the areas of Business & Secretarial and more recently in the Childcare area.  Such has been the success and demand for these courses that Coláiste Mhuire now have purpose built classrooms with state-of-the-art computer facilities for their adult learners.

The courses currently offered at Coláiste Mhuire in conjunction with FETAC (the Further Education and Training Awards Council) are:

FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Business Studies Secretarial (including Manual & Computerised Accounts & Payroll)

FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Childcare (including Special Needs Studies)

FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Engineering Technology (including Welding and Computer Aided Design)

Furthermore, Coláiste Mhuire has extended its Adult Education Programme in recent years to include new Advanced Certificates.
